PS3 GTA More Expensive In UK?
March 25, 2008

Playstation developers are getting into quite a nasty habit (and we dont mean smoking) of charging more for Playstation 3 versions of games than their XBox 360 cousins. This is not the first time this has happened, most recently Devil May Cry was sold at a much higher price than the 360 version even though it had a nasty mandatory install on the PS3, now it seems that GTA IV (possibly the game that will decide the system war this generation) will be approx £5 more expensive on UK shores at least.
WHSmiths a popular all format store in the UK has put up posters in its windows offering to reserve a copy of the game on both systems, but worryingly the full retail price of the game is shown on said poster, with the 360 version retailing at £39.99 and the PS3 retailing at £44.99, Game and Gamestation have also said that they believe the PS3 version will cost more come launch day.
Many people are pointing their fingers at the cost of Blu Ray discs as the culprit of the price hike, with others indicating that not as many people will buy the game on the PS3 due to a smaller user base, which is why the price has been raised to the developer can get their investment costs back.
Personally I’m not sure why this is, but one thing is for sure, the PS3 version wasn’t looking very inviting to me anyway because of the lack of downloadable content, and with the increased price added into the mix, I’ll be buying my version in a green box come launch day.
