GTA IV - 360 or PS3?
April 27, 2008

So you haven’t pre ordered GTA IV, your rich and own both systems (or plan on buying a system to play it on), and you need some help? read on…
unfortunately the store I ordered from hasn’t despatched my copy early, like so many other people on the internet, so I cant give my opinion on the topic, but I can do the next best thing and summarise the excellent info given by Kotaku contributor Michael McWhertor *NO SPOILERS INCLUDED*
- Installation - the PS3 version has a MANDATORY 3.4GB HD install, but it does improve load times, the 360 version has no HD install option.
- Frame Rate - the 360 version had a much smoother frame rate, but both versions were pretty solid.
- Loading and “pop in” - the PS3 version is a couple of seconds faster on standard loading, and whilst it features some “pop in” (where certain items - trees, lamposts etc pop up after a scene has appeared) the 360 features quite a bit more, but it doesn’t make the game unplayable.
- Graphics - the games are almost identical on each system.
- Vibration - as standard on the 360, and programmed in for the dualshock (even though it isnt available in many parts of the world i.e. Europe)
- Online - the 360 version is getting 2 exclusive downloadable content packs of unknown content, and features XBox Live which did struggle under Halo 3 and COD 4’s online girth, but has been ramped up for the GTA IV release, the PS network is as yet untested with anything this big, but hopefully it will work ok.
- Motion Controls - 360 none (obviously) the sixaxis can be used to play helicopters, boats and motorcycle tricks, but apparently sucks.
OVERALL
whichever system you buy the game for, you are going to be getting one of the best if not THE best games of this generation, each system has its weaknesses and strengths, but the versions are so similarly matched it comes down to personal preference. For me I cant stand the European sixaxis, it feels horrid like someone has sneaked in a taken the innards out, and I want to be able to play online when I want on a decent connection even if I do have to pay a bit for it, not to mention the achievements and downloadable content (rumoured to be a whole other city that the PS3 wont get - MSoft paid $50M USD for it) for me its 360, but for you it might be different, just remember that whichever system you get it for, its going to be amazing…roll on Tuesday

Good review and I’m guessing the sixaxis will only suck depending on your skill.
Im hearing on the grapevine that the PS3 version is actually crashing some PS3’s on a regular basis, expect a hasty patch soon.
