E3: Nintendo Conference 2008
July 15, 2008
Well Nintendo’s E3 conference has been and gone, and for the most part it was Ninty big wigs gloating over their massive Wii and DS sales, only two games of note were mentioned and they were a GTA game for the DS and Wii Music.
GTA: Chinatown - Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is an entirely original entry into the critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series, and brings a new level of interactivity to its sprawling open environments. With the use of the DS touch screen, players will navigate their way through the streets as they uncover the truth behind an epic tale of crime and corruption within the Triad crime syndicate, delivering the unprecedented amount of depth that has become a true trademark of the franchise.
Wii Music - “A band game without the silly instruments” - unlike standard music sims such as guitar hero and rockband you are not judged on your accuracy of playing a set number of buttons in time with the screen, but it is just about the enjoyment of the music, so if you can hold your wii-mote and do a violin like stroke, you will join in playing a violin!, the game will feature over 50 virtual instruments and will allow you to video your brilliance or short comings for all your friends to see!!
“This game is one of the titles we started designing around Wii Sports, Wii Play and Wii Fit, we designed Wii Music to allow everyone the joy of performing music.” - Shigeru Miyamoto ( who appeared on stage playing the virtual sax)
Overall not a stunning showcase from Nintendo, but since they are leading this generation of console war at the minute, they don’t really need to compete that much!
