Bioshock: Trailer, Images & Analysis

July 29, 2007

your character survives a mid atlantic plane crash, and whilst you sit in the sea bobbing around surrounded by fire, you notice a small gap in the distance, and swim toward it, noticing a lighthouse in the distance. Inside you take a bathysphere underwater and reach the madhouse that is “Rapture” your so called utopia for the duration of “Bioshock”. In the first level of the game you get a nice amount of hinted guidance, as you take part in a would be tutorial of sorts, learning about the inhabitents, plot, weapons and the all important combat techniques that vary so much from an ordinary first person shooter.

The enemies truly make bioshock what it is, as the creatures of Rapture interact with each other and their surroundings in a way never seen in any other game, The little sisters wander around collecting “Adam” (the gene responsible for what is happening to Rapture) from dead bodies, whilst the oversized Big Daddy’s protect them from harm, the twist is this though - you can extract Adam from the little sisters, in one of two ways, one you can kill them and get all of the adam, or you can save her and only get a small amount of adam, which one are you going to do? and that is true of the rest of the game, everything is about choice, do u run in to a room guns blazing to attack that madman, or do you convince one of your other enemies that the madman is one of his enemies too and make him fight him for you, that is why Bioshock will be truly awesome - choice, not just do i go left or right, but the whole thing, do you drink alcohol and increase your energy, whilst depleting your gene power?, do you try and kill the uber hard big daddy or simply lure the little sister away?

Bioshock features a whole barrage of “standard” weapons like shotguns etc, but the more interesting ones are plasmids, which are akin to “shooting up”, the primary ones are listed below, but far more odd ones have been confirmed:

  • Electrobolt Plasmid - Electrocute anyone organic or blow up robots and machines and hack them for your own uses.
  • Telekinesis Plasmid - catch bombs mid air, and throw them back at your aggresor, or pick up a baddy and throw him at another.
  • Incinerate Plasmid - set fire to the inhabitents, or light up flammable objects and lob them at your foes.
  • Enrage Plasmid - make one of your enemies angry at another one, and fight them for you.

They’re are just so many ways to dispatch the bad guys in Bioshock that you will be experimenting for ages, to find the most effective and fun ways of doing it, This game is going to be amazing, and I for one will be at the head of the queue come August 24th.
