Unstaffed Shop Stays Open Over Xmas

shoplrg
The owner of the “Practically Anything” DIY shop in Settle, North Yorks faced a bit of a problem over the Xmas period – how to spend some time with his family, give his staff some time off and also please his customers, his solution although risky paid off.

Tom Algie decided to leave the shop unattended on Boxing Day, and simply put up a note telling customers to serve themselves and place their payment in an honesty box, amazingly it worked! When Tom came back to lock up the shop at 4:15pm he had made £187.66, and a quick stock check revealed that nothing was missing and if anything he had been overpaid for items as no change was available.

Many of the surprised shoppers left notes of encouragement and thanks to the shopkeeper, and notes of just what they had bought.

I expect house prices in Settle just took a steep rise!
