Rush Hour 3 Review
![]()
Yes they are back after six years, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker return to our screens in what is being billed as a “below par action flick” and “The curse of the terrible threequels”. Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times) says “If your watching Rush Hour 3 you obviously don’t have anything better to do” Ouch, a bit harsh that. Reports say that it took around $50 million in its opening weekend compared to Rush Hour 2 taking $67 million and Rush Hour taking $33 million.
But if you’re like me and you enjoy the chemistry between the two with Jackie Chan’s superbly choreographed martial art acrobatics, mixed with Chris Tuckers humour and timing, you will want to see their latest instalment. No it’s not a ‘Lord of the Rings’ epic or a gritty movie ‘Mona Lisa’ style, it’s exactly what it says on the tin, an Action/Comedy.
The pair this time set off to the strange surroundings of Paris to capture a Triad assassin. Lee (Jackie Chan) is now a bodyguard of his friend Ambassador Han (Tzi Ma), who announces that he knows the identity of the Triad leadership during a World Criminal Court Conference. Thus faces the consequences of an attempted assassination. At the hospital Han’s daughter Soo Yung (Zhang Jhingchu) pleads with Lee and Carter (Chris Tucker) to capture her father’s assassin so that he cannot return and finish what he started. Naturally we are presented with the usual fight scenes and car chases throughout, but of course as we are in Paris they could not end the film without a dramatic scene using the Eiffel Tower as a location.
Perhaps not the best of the Rush Hour trilogy I agree, but none the less worth a watch if you’re into this type of genre. Somehow though I suspect this may be the last we see of the Rush Hour films………but you never know.
