Ron Dennis Quits Formula One

rondennislrg

Ron Dennis, the team principle of the Mclaren Mercedes F1 team has today quit the team after 43 years and handed over total control to Martin Whitmarsh.

“I am the architect of this restructure of McLaren. I have no qualms about leaving Martin to look after all matters connected to F1, I feel enormously enthused about the prospects for both the McLaren Group and for McLaren Automotive.” – Ron Dennis

Ron will remain with the Mclaren group as Chairman of Mclaren Automotive and lead a new project to develop a range of Mclaren sports cars with the first model’s expected to reach sale around 2011.

I’m sure Ron will be sorely missed by the team, but you have to wonder if he was pushed after the Hamilton cheating scandal in which one team member was sacked and Martin Whitmarsh offered to quit, I expect their FIA hearing will go a lot more smoothly now with Ron demoted from the team.
