Review: The Mighty Boosh Live – Future Sailors Tour

Mighty-Boosh

Are you ready to set sail into the future? Climb aboard HMS Boosh, hoist the Perspex anchor, set the controls for the heart of the sun and come navigate the electrical seas with Cyborg Patrick and his Neon Barnacles.

In this live Boosh presentation you will see Howard wrestle with the problems of the universe in tiny shorts, while Vince gets his hair extra big and flounces about, Bob Fossil’s dance moves will turn you on then anger you over and over until you puke. You shall then weep with salty joy as Bollo and Naboo move about and say stuff in their own special way. The Boosh are mighty and sailing at you, strap your eyes onto your brain double tight, cos it’s gonna get choppy like electric sushi.

The Mighty Let Down

Let me start the review by stressing how much of a massive “Boosh” fan I am; we have all three of the BBC TV series on DVD as well as the original live tour, which is possibly one of the best live comedy shows I have ever seen, so when I heard there was a new Live Tour DVD coming out I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy.

Mighty Poor

The DVD started a little slowly but I thought I would give it a chance to warm up; maybe they were building towards something great,  Unfortunately however I was wrong, I can hand on heart say I have never sat through something that felt as much as a Christmas cash in as this rubbish.

The first live DVD felt much more like an extended TV show with larger more elaborate scenes and obviously bad language; a true work of genius, but Future Sailors was just a boring slog where characters from the show were dragged on stage in order, said something equally unfunny and then went off.

I honestly don’t know how the boys got it so wrong with this, maybe the hype and previous reviews have gone to Noel and Julian’s head and they thought they could get away with no story, no humour and no creativity, the only saving grace of the whole farce is Rich Fulcher who still manages to pull something out of the bag, but even he isn’t able to resurrect this dead crack fox from the bin.

Overall

If you have a Boosh fan on your Christmas list, and they have requested this, don’t bother; trust me they will thank you for it! I really hope that The Mighty Boosh movie is a return to Noel and Julian’s comedy best, we really don’t need another Guest House Paradiso in the DVD bargain bins.
