Mercenaries 2: World In Flames
Whilst you might not have heard a great deal about the game itself, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is picking up some great news coverage for some of its clever marketing activities.
Last week in LA, a group of actors dressed as Mercs, took over a Mobil petrol station and started pumping petrol for stunned drivers, and this week they tried a similar stunt in London but unfortunately the roads in London aren’t quite as spacious as those in LA and they ended up causing a massive traffic jam at rush hour, so bad in fact that officials had to step in and pull the plug.
The London give away started at 6:30am but had to be stopped at around 11:00am due to gridlock in the city, apparently around £9,000 of fuel was left unused, Liberal Democrat MP for Hornsey and Wood Green Lynne Featherstone said:
“Whilst a lucky few might have got some free petrol, hundreds of local residents have faced misery on their daily journeys this morning…They deserve an apology for being the victims of such an ill-thought out media stunt.”
From the way Lynne Featherstone tells it, you would have thought that EA/Pandemic had actually used their actors to start killing motorists.
If you have seen the advertisement for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, you might be hooked on the catchy theme tune, if you head HERE you can pick up the tune for free in mp3 format (whilst stocks last)
I think someone over at the PR department needs a pat on the back!
