Mario Kart Wii Glitch

Mario Kart for the Wii finally arrived, and whilst for the most part gamers are enjoying this brilliant addition to the series, there is one nasty little glitch which is enabling cheaters to post unbeatable times on-line. Its reported that Nintendo is less than happy about the situation and is going around erasing the times from its on-line scoreboard. (video after the jump)

Nintendo is in a bit of a tough spot with this one though, as the UK adverts especially hype up the fact that you can compare your best times and stats against everyone in the world, but this glitch/cheat ruins that function. Essentially during a time trial the player will complete one lap, and then after crossing the finish line turn around through 180 degrees and the game registers the time from one lap.

The main problem with this is that unlike the 360 and PS3 the Wii has no internal storage device which could receive and store an update or patch to the game, so unless everyone sends back their game discs ala Guitar Hero then the game is ruined, its a real shame that Nintendo didn’t notice this pretty severe glitch in their most important game this year.
