Indiana Jones: Raiders Of The Lost Ark

With the cinematic release of Indy’s fourth film, the movie studio’s have been keen to cash in by releasing various versions of the prequel movies on DVD. Whilst browsing the movies in my local Asda (Walmart) the other day one of these boxsets caught my eye - “Indiana Jones - The Adventure Collection”, retailing at £20 GBP (approx $42 USD) the last time I had owned any of the “Indy” films was back when I was living at home, and my dad had taped them from the TV over xmas, so I thought it was about time I added these classics to my collection. Over the next week or so (depending on how long it takes me to get round to watching the movies and the associated extras) I will give you a disc by disc review of the boxset and the special features within, starting with the beginning of the series: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Raiders of the Lost Ark is for many people the most enjoyable of all the Indy films, the amazing mix of high paced action, and witty banter still has the same effect today, even if some of the ending special effect sequences are beginnning to look a little tired. The update to DVD has been kind on old Indy making the first film in the series look clearer and sharper than ever before.

Best Bits:

  • Karen Allen & Harrison Ford’s on screen chemistry.
  • The classic part of the film where the Swordsman gets shot by Indy after showing off his sword skills.

Special Features:

  • New introduction by Steven Spielberg & George Lucas
  • The Indy Trilogy: Appreciation (A look at some of the best bits of all three movies as seen from the various stars and cast of all four movies)
  • The Mystery Of The Melting Face (A documentary on how they did the melting face scene at the end of the film)
  • The Well Of Souls Storyboard
  • Various picture Galleries

Overall this disc alone would have been worth the price, the behind the scenes looks at the making of this classic movie are priceless and very interesting. Keep checking back for part two of the review where we look at Disc 2 - The Temple Of Doom.
