The Number 23

When I was told to watch and review this movie I was a little hesitant to be honest, Jim Carey’s only other foray into the realm of “real” acting (The Truman Show) was in my opinion pathetic, short and poorly thought out, but this film has shown that he can really do a good job when he puts his mind to it even though the number 23 isn’t really the greatest film.

Jim Carrey plays a dog catcher come pest controller, who leads a fairly normal life, with his wife and son, until his wife buys him a book entitled “The Number 23”. He reluctantly starts to turn the pages and starts to realise that the story bears quite a few resemblances to his early life, and that the number 23 is truly everywhere, add up the numbers in his characters name = 23, dates of birth, the titanic sinking all add up to 23, and this is where the paranoia really starts to kick in.

He and his wife eventually try to track down the author of this novel of obsession, and find much more than they bargained for, the film features quite a cool twist at the end, but I guessed it quite a way before the end, so I expect anyone of you with a modicum of intelligence to do the same.

Overall The Number 23 is an enjoyable yarn and is well worth a look if your in the rental shop and nothing else you want is in, other than that, its not one of the films you’ll be telling your mates about come Monday morning at work
