Captivity Movie Review Trailer and Images Starring Elisha Cuthbert

Captivity is directed by Roland Joffe and written by Larry Cohen and Joseph Tura. It stars Elisha Cuthbert as a beautiful young model who is kidnapped and subjected to a series of brutal and terrifying tasks in order to stay alive. Trapped in a room and forced to face her worst fears, her only hope comes when she realises that there is another person being held in the room next door to her. As the two plot their escape and try to outsmart their captor Jennifer ends up playing the ultimate game of cat and mouse in a desperate bid to free herself.

Captivity is being hailed as one of this years worst movies, earning the labelling of ‘torture porn’ for its scenes of brutality and disturbing plotline. The reason that the critics seem to dislike it so much seems to be because it bears such a strong resemblance to movies like ‘Saw’ and ‘Hostel’ which ultimately do what this movie tries to do, but 10 times better. Elisha Cuthbert was good in her role, but what let her down was a rather predictable plotline and an idea that has been used before.
That said however, I did find myself enjoying this movie, it had some genuinely disturbing scenes that really made me cringe in places and although I spotted the movies main twist coming a mile off it was still fun to watch how it played out.

Daniel Gillies wasn’t particularly amazing in the movie but I loved Pruitt Taylor Vince who played the role of his brother. This guy starred in an episode of X Files and played an equally disturbing character and always has this ability to play the bad guy really well, it’s a shame we didn’t see more of him.

I think that Captivity is an entertaining film, but lacks the depth and plotline of other films in the horror genre that it is trying to rival. Here at Damn That’s Awesome we give the movie 3/5 stars.
