Bioshock Movie Planned

One of last years biggest game releases “Bioshock” has been pencilled in for a big screen release by hollywood bigwigs. The games developer 2k have signed a deal with Universal pictures.

BioShock has been hailed as one of the most highly cinematic and richly plotted titles in interactive entertainment, making it extremely well-suited to film… Our ability to attract a major studio and unparalleled creative team speaks volumes about the strength of our BioShock franchise. – Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two.

Bioshock sold more than two million copies worldwide, and a sequel is in the pipeline for ’09, the success of the game has attracted some major Hollywood talent, Gore Verbinski (Director of Pirates of the Caribbean) has already signed on the dotted line and John Logan (Academy Award-nominated writer of Gladiator, The Aviator and Sweeney Todd) is in talks with 2k and Universal as we speak.

Of all the games out there, I think Bioshock is the one that’s the most engaging. I think the whole utopia-gone-wrong story that’s cleverly unveiled to players is brimming with cinematic potential. – Gore Verbinski.

Could Verbinski be the first man to make a big screen adaptation of a game work? time will tell, but if he puts half as much effort into Bishock as he did Pirates, then we should be on for an amazing movie.
